Compassion Care Specialist
Deb VanElzen
Compassion Care Specialist
Deb exudes compassion, unconditional positive regard, and encourages others to be an authentic version of themselves—not what others or society might expect of them.
She was born with a huge heart to help others. Because of this, she was naturally drawn to the medical field 24 years ago. She began as a Volunteer EMT-B, then quickly became an Ohio Division of Emergency Medical Services Certified Paramedic and Certified State of Ohio Firefighter II. She also served as an Emergency Medical Service Instructor and mentored new fire department recruits and EMS students before retiring from Madison and Lake Township Fire Departments.
Taking her own passions for healthy living to the next level, Deb also became a health and wellness coach, sharing her knowledge of food and nutrition with clients for more than 10 years. She helped educate numerous people on how to alter their eating habits, learn to meal plan and understand how the right foods can be fuel for their bodies. Her favorite quote: “Most people have no idea how good their body is designed to feel” was and continues to be a pillar of her education and coaching of others.
Deb’s dedication and compassion doesn’t just extend to her clients. She lives this value first and authentically at home with her family. She has been married to her husband Andy for 22 years and is the mom of two well-rounded teenagers active in their school, church and sports. She is grateful to be able to create a loving, healthy, and positive home environment for her family.
Deb has joined the staff at Guiding House because of her passion and desire to help others see their potential, and feel special, worthy and loved. She has a special affinity for helping the elderly and the marginalized. When you are around Deb, there is no doubt you will feel cared about. She is a bright light in a dim and troubled world.
